Both sides of the official political divide, republicans and democrats, have been lying to you and I through their teeth. Whilst we have been shouldering the brunt of federal tax revenues since the bloody 1940’s corporations have been paying an increasing smaller percentage. Frankly, I favor low taxes for everyone, but don’t you think it is a bit unfair that we as individuals should be shouldering
The real crime is the demise of excise taxes over the decades. Payroll taxes and individual income taxes have become the dominant revenue streams for the government.
I say do away with individual income taxes, lower corporate taxes to a fair and acceptable level, and focus on excise taxes. With the sheer number of small and mid range businesses, and the sheer bulk of the tax burden of large corporations, a fair moderate level of corporate taxes on revenues will encourage compliance, discourage attempts to evade taxation, and provide more than enough funding. The fact is that we really honestly do not need governance on the scale that we see today, we like to pretend that we do.
But deep down inside, we know that we don’t. Except those who enjoy sucking on the government’s teat. A hint.
It is not our mother, and should not be treated as such.
